Emma asked to hear a "story" during dinner. Now, Adam's stories tend to be a little confusing for her (a dog named "cat," living in a town called "castle,"--you get the picture). so before he started I reminded him to make it a good one. He proceeded to tell a beautiful, grandiose tale about a firefly and grasshopper. After he had finished, he looked at me and said, "Beat that one, Mommy!" So, not to be outdone, I immediately accepted the challenge.
The rest of dinner was spent with us attempting to one-up the other one's previous story. Emma was taken aback at how fun, exciting, and animated our dinnertime talk could be all of a sudden. Lots of times we just talk about grown up things which I'm sure bore her to no end, yet she chimes into the conversation when she can. But tonight, we talked about the adventures of a firefly, grasshopper, canary and cricket. I wish everyone could have seen her face...eyes wide-eyed, ears hanging on every word. So funny. And all because we were trying to "win." (which, by the way, I totally won). ha ha
